The Mission of the Mountain Man

26.2 miles in the Great Smoky Mountains wearing a 35 pound ruck sack. It's going to be  hilly, humid, and long. But very fun in a twisted sort of way.

The 6th Annual Mountain Man Memorial March was  originally created to honor First Lieutenant Frank Walkup, a 2005 University of Tennessee graduate who was killed in Iraq in 2007, this event has now grown to honor all fallen American military members.

The motto of the Mountain Man Match is "Honor Through Action", and by going to compete in this event I hope to bring a bit of attention to those who have lost their lives in service of our Country.

This is also going to be a significant personal challenge for me. I will be 37 years old at the time of the race. Back when I was a young man in the Army, I felt as if I could throw a ruck sack on and go for days. That was over 16 years ago. I'm a little older now, but I ain't dead. I suppose I want to prove to myself that I still have "it".

So, with a fine group of people that I workout with at Comal Crossfit we're off to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Let's get it on.
