The Arena Of Life

Life can get to be nothing more than a grind. You hear so many things from so many people. Society is toxic. America is doomed. We stink now. Turn on the TV and it’s full of sex, drugs, goofy people singing, housewives, know it all commentators on every news station, sports you’ve seen a million times, and pretty much a bunch of nonsense. But I watch, and I love football season. No telling how many hours I waste eating cheese dip and watching football every year. I genuinely enjoy it. And the internet. Talk about a great way to spend our time. I personally can check the Drudge Report and the Facebook dozens of time a day if I’m bored. Because you never want to be the last one to hear about the TSA feeling someone up or not know that “so in so” changed their profile picture. That’s important stuff. America is full of a bunch of fat-bodies. We eat too much, drink too much then get fat and sick. Then we complain about the cost of health care. We love to gripe and moan. It’s fun.
What do you do? I read the Bible and some of the stuff in there hurts my brain. It’s tough to wrap my mortal mind around the fact that we were Created and I fit into all this somehow. I believe it, so why do I so rarely find the time to read the Bible?   It’s a whole bunch easier to get a big cup of Blue Bell and see if there’s a new episode of Pawn Stars on my DVR.


I’m a Tea Party guy I suppose. All politicians stink. They lie. They’re full of bull butter. They don’t follow our Constitution. I have quite a few books about our founding fathers. Primary sources. Books about our Constitution. History books. Books about prominent American military leaders. Books written by successful football coaches. I have a bunch of books. Good stuff. I’ll start reading them but then my brain starts to hurt, because those books cover some serious topics. It hurts my brain a lot less to get a big cup of Moo-llennium Crunch and turn on SportsCenter.


Did I mention that many people believe we have become a Nation of fat bodies?


I need to get stronger as a man. I need to become spiritually stronger, intellectually stronger, and physically stronger. I have to get in the Bible every day. I have to spend more time reading and less time in front of the television. I have to eat a little less and move a little more. It is my hope that this blog holds me a bit more accountable than if I were going at it alone. I encourage anyone who reads this blog to comment and share in the discussion. Perhaps you may find something here that helps you in your fight. You may be able to help me as I try to fight the good fight.
It’s time to go to work.


A group of friends and I got to talking a while back about the notion of having real concrete "missions" in life. Not the vague "I'm going to be a better husband, father, son..." We talked about the idea of going and doing something that's difficult. Something that would force you get up off the couch and train. Your kids would see you do it, and you would lead from the front. Something difficult that would force you to lean on the Creator for strength and in turn strengthen your relationship with Him. 


Life is too short to simply spectate. Do something. Live In The Arena.
